2018 Mitsubishi Outlander vs. 2018 Honda Pilot

In today's vehicle market, choosing which vehicle is right for you can seem like an insurmountable task, especially when choosing between similar vehicles, like two sedans or two SUVs. So many different SUVs come with several of the same features, at first glance it can seem like the only real difference between them is the manufacturer.

Take the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander for example. At first look, it seems almost identical to the 2018 Honda Pilot. They're both SUVs with third-row seating, convertible seats that allow for both cargo space and passenger capacity, multi-angle rear cameras, and a variety of package options. So how are you supposed to tell which is the better choice?

Here at Colonial Mitsubishi, we're happy to assist you in choosing what vehicle is right for you and your family, and it's clear to us which is the better option: the Mitsubishi Outlander. While the two vehicles are extremely similar, when it comes to bang for your buck, the Outlander is the clear choice, with incredible affordability and outstanding quality.

From the get-go, it's clear that the 2018 Outlander is the smarter financial decision for just about anybody. With a starting MSRP of $23,945, the 2018 Outlander starts at almost $7,000 less than the 2018 Pilot, which has a starting MSRP of $30,900. For most people, the most cost-effective choice is the best choice and the Outlander is the clear winner when it comes to cost-effectiveness.

But the lower price of the 2018 Outlander does not mean a compromise in the quality of the vehicle, or the technology inside of it. In fact, the 2018 Outlander has some standard features, like a 7-in. touch-screen infotainment system and 18-in. Alloy wheels, that are considered premium and only available on higher trim levels in other cars like the Pilot. The Mitsubishi Outlander also comes standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 166 horsepower. The Honda Pilot gets more horsepower, with a V6 engine that gets 280 hp at its peak, but sacrifices fuel efficiency for that power, only getting a rating of 19 mpg city and 27 mpg highway, while the Outlander gets 25 mpg city and 30 mpg highway.

The Mitsubishi Outlander is available in five different trim levels: the ES, SE, LE, SEL, and GT, with ES being the standard trim level and GT being the most premium trim, which comes with a more powerful 3.0-liter MIVEC engine that can achieve 224 hp. All of the trim levels are available with Super All-Wheel Control, which comes with four driver-selectable modes: Normal, Snow, Lock, and AWD Eco, meaning the Outlander is equipped to help you handle just about any condition. The Outlander comes standard with dual-zone automatic climate control on all trim levels. The Honda Pilot is also available in five trim levels: the LX, EX, EX-L, Touring, and Elite, and is available in either front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, but only the EX and higher trim levels offer automatic climate control.

But while the Pilot's most premium trim level starts at $47,470, the Outlander's most premium trim level, the GT starts at just $32,245. They both can tow up to 3,500 lbs., they both have heated, leather-wrapped steering wheels, they both have Apple CarPlay (TM) and Android Auto compatibility. They have comparable capacities for cargo and passengers, yet the Outlander GT is over $15,000 less than the Pilot Elite. Even the second most premium trim level of the Pilot, the Touring, is almost $10,000 more than the Outlander GT.

When choosing between the Mitsubishi Outlander and the Honda Pilot, it is clear that the Outlander is the better choice, no matter what you and your family need, it saves you more money upfront by being more cost-efficient than the Honda Pilot, even in the premium trim levels, and it will save you more money over its lifetime, with its superior fuel efficiency. Come down to Colonial Mitsubishi and test drive one today, to see for yourself just why people all over Indiana, PA, are choosing the 2018 Mitsubishi Outlander as their next mid-size SUV.
